The Education Department at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art offers fun projects and arts integration opportunities to our community in a variety of outlets. We feel that the creative spirit is vital to development and growth for kids and adults, which is why we offer free resources for parents, teachers, and kids.
Group classes in the Ceramics Studio at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art
Join us in our City of Biloxi Ceramic Arts Center for a new spin on creativity classes. We provide a fun, educational, inspiring venue for private gatherings for all ages and offer both wheel-thrown and hand-building classes.*
Here’s how it works: Your group arrives and sets up any food or beverages you’ve brought along. Wine and beer are fine to bring! We’ll have everything creative ready to go. When everyone arrives, we’ll walk you through the studio and then jump right into our clay play, helping and guiding you along the way. No clay experience is necessary!
Please keep in mind this is a “wet clay” studio, and so the work created at the party must be carefully dried and fired in our kilns. Your work will be ready for pickup a few weeks after your class. Read the “fine print” below, and feel free to call us with any questions.
*Hand-building (by the way) means sitting at a table with some clay and hand tools to make things, and it is generally easier and more social, so we recommend it for parties and team building events.
Birthday Parties at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art
Sculptural Art Birthday Party: Each participant will make one piece of sculptural art. When you register, we will provide a list of available projects, and you may select one to create. Pricing is $15 – $25 per child or participating adult (with an 8 child minimum) dependent upon the chosen art project. There is no maximum number allowed, so if you have a large group of children or adults, this option is a good choice. Your registration fee covers 2 hours of studio rental, which includes time to eat and open gifts. Work is generally ready to pick up in two weeks (often sooner!), and should be picked up by ONE person.
Wheel Throwing Birthday Party: We have 10 wheels in our pottery studio. Therefore, if you are booking this option and have more than 10 participants, you will need to plan on participants sharing the pottery wheels. Each child will make two pots or bowls to keep, and our staff then trims and glazes the pots for firing. Pricing is $25/child or participating adult with a 6 child minimum. Work is ready to pick up in two weeks and should be picked up by ONE person. (We will have it boxed and ready to go!)
Basic rules for a birthday party rental:
Items to bring: A tablecloth to cover one of our tables for food service, refreshments, napkins and cups, plates, etc. You are welcome to bring decorations or a piñata to hang outside in our tree.
Arrival and departure: Please arrive no more than 10 minutes before your party is scheduled to begin. Parents will be able to set up food tables while children are at work on their clay projects. Also, please remember that your rental time is for two hours.
Safety in the studio: Our ceramics studio is a working studio with ongoing classes and students conducting independent study. We want you to have a safe and fun birthday experience, and therefore children must be aware of boundaries within the studio space. No climbing on our beautiful studio tree, the external walls, or the stairs is allowed. Children should refrain from touching studio artwork and tools. We have a designated area for birthday parties, and parents are asked to help our staff keep children safely in this area.
Discounts/Deposits/ Registration: Museum members hosting an entire class receive 10% off the total class fee. You must register your group at least 10 days in advance, and a 50% non refundable deposit is required at the time of booking. Balance is due on the day of your class.

Registration for a hand building workshop is $15 per participant with a $150 minimum registration fee (8 participants). Your fee includes all instruction, materials, and firing costs. Registration for wheel throwing workshops is $25 and includes the same. Grab a bottle of your favorite beverage, bring some snacks, and come create something original in a fun environment!
The fine print for all creative events: Reservations for private studio bookings are required at least two weeks in advance and are based on studio and instructor availability. We require a $75 non-refundable deposit and completed reservation paperwork to reserve the studio for events. The Museum has an alcohol permit for beer only. If you would like to bring wine or liquor to your event, there is a $30 permit charge and we must have 30 days advance notice. Museum members hosting an entire class receive 10% off the total class fee, excluding alcohol permit. Balance is due on the day of your class after a head count is taken of those creating projects. Projects will be available for pickup 2 weeks after your class, potentially 3 weeks if your choice is a wheel class. We are available to mail finished work to participants for a $10 per person charge for packing and postage. Minimum number of students required for booking a party is eight. The Museum does not provide linens, silverware, food, or beverages.
