June Ward: Passages and Possibilities
IP Casino Resort Spa Exhibitions Gallery
June 17 – December 6, 2014
Gulfport, Mississippi artist June Ward is inspired by beauty and color. After studying drawing and art history at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, she continued with other learning venues and private instruction, exploring forms of creative expression. In 2009, Ward was juried into membership of Oil Painters of America and is a member of Women Painters of the Southeast. She serves as a Regional Director for The National Museum for Women in the Arts in Washington, DC. Passages and Possibilities follows Ward’s passages through life as she searched for her artistic voice, open to all possibilities. Her art follows the cycle of the seasons in still life, landscape and figurative works. Flowers in her still life paintings show the natural progression of time with blooms at their peak, fading flowers and seeds signifying the repeating cycle. Her landscapes, which often include figurative elements, speak of the passage of time in different geographical locations. The overriding theme throughout all these categories is the emphasis of light, in an intimate setting accented with Ward’s hand painted furniture.
This exhibition is funded by R&B Feder Charitable Foundation for the Beaux-Arts, the Mississippi Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency
