Museum History
1994 - A Mississippi citizens group with the founding support of the Knight Foundation opened the George Ohr Arts and Cultural Center.
1998 - Jeremiah O’Keefe family contributes $1M to the capital campaign, kicking off the new building fund.
1998 - Frank Gehry meets with Jerry O’Keefe and agrees to design the new Museum.
2000 - City of Biloxi purchases four acres on Highway 90 as the new site of the Museum.
2003 - Groundbreaking ceremony
2005 - August 29 Hurricane Katrina destroys new construction 11 months from opening.
2008 - July reconstruction begins.
