Hershel Lippmann: A Collector's Passion

January 22, 2010-May 28, 2010

Exhibition to Open January 22, 2010 at the Pleasant Reed Interpretive Center

On the New Campus of the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art
386 Beach Boulevard
Biloxi, MS  39530

Hershel Lippmann began collecting art while living in New Orleans.  He commissioned an original watercolor from a friend and from that his real interest in art developed.  Years later, he moved to Mississippi and was introduced to the works of local artists. His collection includes oils and watercolors and has grown to include artists from the Southwestern United States, Russian and China.

"My early acquisitions were all watercolors, says Mr. Lippmann, but, when I began travelling out West, oils became my choice of medium". " I have never become interested in paintings in which the viewer must guess what the artist was trying to convey, although I have included many fine impressionistic pieces in my collection along with the realistic works", Lippmann states.

The exhibition will open at the Pleasant Reed Interpretive Center on the campus of the new museum January 22, 2010.  A Collector's talk will take place 5:30-6:00 with a reception following catered by F & B Catering.  The address is 386 Beach Boulevard but the entrance to the Pleasant Reed Interpretive Center is accessed off of Meaut Street. (see attached map). The exhibition will run through May 28, 2010, gallery hours are 10-4 Monday through Friday and admission is free.

Once again the Ohr-O'Keefe closes one door and opens another-this time to its new life on Beach Boulevard.  The Pleasant Reed Interpretive Center will house our first exhibit on the new campus and will also give visitors a first-hand look at the powerful and exciting Frank Gehry designed buildings, says Denny Mecham, Ohr Executive Director.
